The Hope Centre for Meditation, Healing, and Well-being

Second floor, 15-16, Angel Lane, Penrith, Cumbria, CA11 7BP, England

The Hope Centre is a place for people to come together to learn, share, and enjoy practicing activities which are good for us – mind, body, and soul. The focus is on well-being and personal discovery, not religion. The hope is to be a place for all people to come and find things to do which nourish and inspire us, and to enjoy the peaceful, creative, caring space which we make together. It is a space for mindfulness. It is also a space to simply rest and receive healing

If a class or group meeting does have a spiritual focus, this will be clarified in the details of the session, and you can choose if it is for you. We will try to keep a balance at the centre so that people of all faiths or none, and with different kinds of hopes, can always find a meeting, class or therapy which is good for them.

We will list all events and sessions organised by the Hope Centre in the box below.

What’s happening at the Hope Centre?

Mindful Meditation Classes

Individual or small group classes to learn, practice and understand mindfulness as a way of being. The classes can include guided sitting meditations, gentle mindful movement, and various explorations of mindfulness as a way of nourishing our true awareness of the moment we are in, of healing our experience of life, and of living well.

Single sessions or sets of 6-8 weeks classes which take you through a transformational range of mindful meditations, and the connected wisdom. There is also time for reflection on your own insights and experiences. An example of an 8 weeks’ course would include teaching and practices such as:

The Body Scan. The ‘Hourglass’ Breathing Space. Mindful Movement. Opening the Heart to Compassion and Kindness to Self and Others. Breathing with Tender Allowing into Difficult Feelings or Suffering. Simple Open Awareness. Mindful Creativity. Mindful Connection with Nature.

With Jacci Bulman (Dip. d. Y. Th, CMT), a qualified yoga therapist and Mindfulness Now meditation teacher who has over twenty years’ experience of teaching and practising different kinds of meditation.

Qi Gong Classes

Qi Gong classes will begin in 2025. There is currently the opportunity to learn Mindful Movements, such as the ’10 Mindful Movements’ sequence originally taught by the late great Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh. This sequence is very simple and gentle, focusing on the in/out breaths as we move slowly in a mindful and relaxing way. A fabulous practice to stretch and begin our day, or to refresh and focus ourselves at any time.

Classes with Jacci are one-to-one or for two students maximum.

Cost per class is £15 for one person, or £10 each for two people, for 40 minutes.

Christian Meditation Cumbria (CMC)

From September onwards – 3rd Wednesday of every month (Sept 20th, Oct 18th, Nov 15th, Dec 20th, 2023)
Penrith Christian Meditation group

From 12 – 1 PM (entry to room from 12 PM before session begins at 12.10 PM)

This group is part of Christian Meditation Cumbria (CMC), within the World Community of Christian Meditation (WCCM), a fellowship of Christian contemplatives worldwide.

These meditations are connected to Jesus. Sometimes we will share a small piece of text or theme for the meditation, then hold together a silent Christian focus, for 30 minutes, followed by time to share our reflections. Other times we will hold a mindful meditation space, with our awareness on living here and now within Christianity, followed by an optional sharing of our experiences and insights.

Everyone, of all faiths and none, is welcome.

For this group meeting we ask for £2 per session or a small donation. There is no need to book, you can simply turn up at the room and find a space.
